9th June 2025Fake news biggest threat to Spanish security
The Spanish secret service CNI warns in a new report that fake news is the biggest risk to national security until 2030. Misleading information, often spread by foreign actors, undermines government confidence and can cause civil unrest, especially through social media.
Cyber attacks and terrorism remain threats, but disinformation stands out as a political weapon. Artificial intelligence is making fake content increasingly credible. Russia, China and Iran are mentioned as major disseminators.
Spain is vulnerable because of its open digital society. CNI calls for cooperation between government, tech companies and citizens to protect democracy.
