YTONG
WHAT IS YTONG
Ytong (brand) is aerated concrete, also known as aerated concrete. It is an acoustic and thermally insulating building material made from a composition of lime, cement, quartz sand, water and some aluminum powder.
Can Ytong be used as an exterior wall?
Ytong aerated concrete is a high-quality, homogeneous and stone-like building material that does not contain fibers or other non-stone materials. It is insensitive to moisture and frost, and can therefore be used as an exterior wall or in wet areas.
What was Ytong's name in the past?
Ytong is a brand name for aerated concrete, often also called aerated concrete. This product was previously called Durox, which is why it is often still called that. The name is used by the building materials manufacturer Xella.
How thick should a Ytong wall be?
Which blocks you need depends on the application. The rule of thumb is that a non-load-bearing wall must be at least 100 millimeters thick and a load-bearing wall at least 150 millimeters. Ytong has a special range of Ytong bilge blocks for the first layer of your construction project.
Can Ytong handle water?
Ytong blocks are made of sand, lime and water. They are extremely light, very easy to process and have a good insulating effect. For these reasons, they are ideal for constructing a new wall in your home or laying a new subfloor in the bathroom. They are moisture resistant, environmentally friendly and durable.
Is Ytong fire resistant?
Ytong offers optimal fire safety due to the unique structure of aerated concrete. In the event of a fire, aerated concrete retains all its properties. Ytong blocks are non-flammable, non-combustible, do not deform, do not emit toxic gases.
Is Ytong load-bearing?
Ytong blocks are blocks made of aerated concrete/gas concrete. It is a sustainable product, consisting of sand, lime and water. The material is light and therefore easy to handle. At the same time, the aerated concrete blocks are strong enough to serve in both a load-bearing and non-load-bearing construction.
How well does Ytong insulate?
The Ytong Energy+ building block
The Energy+ building block has a very low lambda value (the lower the better) of 0.06 W/mK and can therefore provide very well insulated walls. For comparison, a standard building block has a lambda value of approximately 0.3 W/mK and for PUR insulation this is around 0.025 W/mK.
Can you lay aerated concrete?
The difference between laying bricks with aerated concrete or aerated concrete and laying bricks with regular concrete blocks or bricks is that you must glue aerated concrete blocks and not use masonry mortar. When building with aerated concrete, mortar is only used for the first layer of blocks, the so-called bilge layer.
How to glue Ytong blocks?
You can easily glue plaster blocks or Ytong blocks with Soudal Block Glue. Soudal Block Glue is suitable for all sand-lime bricks, concrete blocks and aerated concrete types of all brands. The Block Glue is ready-made in the can so you can start the job immediately; just shake briefly before use.
