The coastline of San Pedro de Alcántara is on the brink of a striking transformation. An ambitious €7.4 million regeneration project aims to halt coastal erosion for good and restore 3.5 kilometres of beaches across San Pedro, Linda Vista, and Guadalmina to their former glory. Balancing environmental care with historical preservation, this cherished stretch of Marbella is getting a sustainable upgrade.

What to Expect

The shoreline between the Guadaiza and Guadalmina rivers has battled severe erosion for years. Following five years of meticulous planning and environmental reviews, the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition greenlit the project in early 2025. Over a nine-month period, the coastline will be both reinforced and beautifully enhanced.

Key Highlights:

Five New Breakwaters: Five robust groynes (ranging from 90 to 260 metres, in T- and L-shapes) will replace outdated defenses to prevent sand loss.

151,045 m³ of Fresh Sand: A blend of river and quarry sand will restore the beaches to their natural, spacious width.

A 2.1-Kilometre Wooden Boardwalk: This three-metre-wide pedestrian path—partially elevated and featuring a bridge over the Chopo stream—will seamlessly connect the promenade and improve accessibility for all.

A Carefully Crafted Journey

This transformation didn't happen overnight. Since initial consultations in 2020, extensive dialogue took place between authorities, environmental groups, and local residents. Their input refined the design to ensure marine ecosystems and cultural heritage remain protected. San Pedro is ready for a vibrant, sustainable future by the sea.
